Online Quran Ijazah Cost: Exactly What You Pay

| Lessons taught in Arabic | $25 a month for 8 lessons (two a week, 30 minutes) |
|---|---|
| Lessons taught in English or French | $40 a month for 8 lessons |
| Extra lessons | The price rises with the number of lessons |

| Before you pay | A free 30-minute trial lesson, plus a second free lesson with another teacher if the first is not the right fit |
When students search for the price of an Ijazah, they find wildly different numbers, and sometimes no number at all until they contact the provider. So here is the full cost, clearly: what you pay, when you pay it, and how to estimate the total before you start.
What does the cost of an Ijazah consist of?
An Ijazah is not a single payment in exchange for a certificate. It is a complete reading of the Quran to a qualified teacher across consecutive lessons, after which your Ijazah is written with a connected Sanad. So the cost has two parts:
- Monthly lesson fees: for the teacher’s time spent listening to and correcting your recitation throughout the full reading.
- The Ijazah fee: $100, paid only once, when you receive your Ijazah after completing the reading and passing the exam.
Monthly lesson fees
The basic package is 8 lessons a month, two a week, 30 minutes each, in live one-to-one sessions with a qualified male or female teacher:
- $25 a month when the lessons are taught in Arabic.
- $40 a month when the lessons are taught in English or French, for students who need explanations in a language other than Arabic.
If you want to finish faster, you can add more lessons per week; the monthly price rises with the number of lessons.
How to estimate the total cost of your Ijazah
Total cost = (monthly lesson fee × number of months) + the $100 Ijazah fee. The number of months depends on your level and how many lessons you take. Here is an example for a strong Hafiz taught in Arabic, with two lessons a week, who needs about a year to complete the full reading:
| Item | Approximate amount |
|---|---|
| Lessons: 12 months × $25 | $300 |
| Ijazah fee on receipt | $100 |
| Approximate total | About $400 |
This is an illustration, not a fixed price. With lessons taught in English or French, the monthly fee is $40 instead of $25. A student who needs a correction stage before the full reading will take longer, and a student who adds lessons pays more per month but for fewer months. To estimate the number of months in your case, see How long does a Quran Ijazah take.
Why is the Ijazah fee paid on receipt?
Because the Ijazah is only granted after you complete the full reading and pass the exam. It makes no sense to pay for it in advance before you know you will complete it. So you pay monthly for the lessons only, and you pay the Ijazah fee only when you actually receive it.
What does the subscription include?
- Live one-to-one lessons with audio and video, with a male or female teacher who holds an Ijazah with a connected Sanad.
- Correction of every mistake in articulation, letter qualities, rules, stopping and starting before you move on.
- Lesson times in your own time zone.
- Female teachers for women and girls; see Quran Ijazah for women online.
- After the full reading: the Ijazah exam, then the Ijazah written with your teacher’s Sanad.
Is the cheapest Ijazah the best?
Not always. Before comparing prices, check three things: that the teacher genuinely holds an Ijazah and can show you its text and Sanad; that the Ijazah is granted after a complete reading, not after scattered parts; and that you read directly to the teacher, not only through recordings. An Ijazah that is not based on a correct complete reading does not achieve its purpose, whatever its price.
Frequently asked questions about Ijazah cost
Do I pay anything before the trial lesson?
No. The trial lesson is free and lasts 30 minutes. If the teacher is not the right fit, you get a second free lesson with another teacher.
Is the fee different for an Ijazah by sight and from memory?
No, the Ijazah fee is $100 in both cases. We explain the difference between the two in Ijazah by sight or from memory.
Can I study more than two lessons a week?
Yes. The monthly price rises with the number of lessons, and the full reading takes less time in return.
What about an Ijazah in the ten Qira’at?
It is a longer, more specialised track. Ask about it during your free trial lesson.
